Masterpiece

Masterpiece is the name of an album for an imaginary band, called Robot Talk. To help create a feel for the band, this project allowed the album to pull sounds and aesthetics from other artists/bands that already exist in the world today to help create a brand image for Robot Talk.

THE APPROACH

How do you design album art for a band and album that doesn’t exist?

This project was dedicated to creating a front and back album cover design, a concert tour poster design, and a vinyl cover for the album Masterpiece. Through initial process work, research, and song discovery, this project helps imagine an ideal brand image for a popular artist collection.

The Result .

It was initially difficult to focus in on one specific direction for the brand image. After more song discovery and brainstorming, exploring Pinterest and Spotify, and creating a style guide, the brand identity became a lot more clear. My goal for this project was to create effective advertising and branding materials for Robot Talk, while also allowing my own design voice to shine through the work.

The process started by writing out certain sounds, feelings, and aesthetics for the album Masterpiece while repeatedly listening to “sounds-like” bands on Spotify. After initial song discovery and researching retro aesthetics on Pinterest, a final style guide was created to include a vibrant color palette, fonts, and warm visual aesthetics.

The album Masterpiece elicits a feeling of movement and passage of time, almost like music that is played on a long highway drive. These aesthetics make way for the car as the central focus of the album cover. The warm, vibrant colors, combined with overlapping text and imagery, create a feeling of calm energy for the album cover and concert tour poster.
